great climbing quote sent in by fellow wild woman jaynie brookshire....thanks jaynie!!!

The joy of climbing well.To climb smoothly between sky and earth, in a succession of precise and efficient movements, induces an inner peace and even a moody of gaity; it is like a well-regulated ballet, with the roped climbers all in their respective places.A difficulty encountered poses a question; the movements to resolve it give reply. This is the intimate pleasure of communicating with the mountain, not with its grandeur and beauty but, more simply, more directly, with its material self, its substance, as an artist communicates with the wood, the stone, or the iron with which he is working. There is another sort of balance, even more important than physical balance; mental balance.Climb above all with the head.Consider what you want to do in relation to what you are capable of doing. Mountaineering is above all a matter of integrity. GASTON REBUFFAT

get your booties in a harness!!!!
Boldokay ladies....for all of you who live in knoxville and are considering the grand teton climb,
the climbing wall on sutherland avenue offers a women's only climb on the first monday of each month. it is $11...that includes everything you need to climb...shoes, harness and instruction. this is great training for our big girl climb in july.

phone #673-4687

for all you knoxville gals who would like to.... we will start some weekly hikes. as soon as i have a count, i will coordinate your schedules and we will head to the mountains! for all you chicas out of town...start your training!!! google climbing gyms in your city! get your booties in a harness!

our main climbing dude, patrick peterson sent me a gear list today....i will post it on the blog (as soon as i figure out how) you will probably need a few things. february and march are good times to hit your local outdoor store if you live in the south...all the winter stuff goes to 75% off.
jackson hole guide service provides all the official climbing gear you need and they also have the "sticky" shoes to rent. (believe me, these are not a fashionable purchase...i will be renting!)

the main thing is to layer....smart wool, rain gear...down jacket....comfortable gloves....good hiking boots. (mast general store downtown k-town offers full-service boot fitting and advice...talk to jim...he guided for nols) you will be down to shorts in the daytime and layered up in the evening. you may also want a day pack...for personal stuff....remember we are having all our gear schleped up the mountain for us! whooo-hooo!

rock on,wild women!!!!

p.s. if i have left anyone off this list that you can see...please forward the info. also, if you have friends you'd like to invite...feel free.
f.y.i. we can only take 12 women on this trip...because there are only so many people allowed on the mountain at a time. so, if you are interested, please go ahead and call patrick peterson and get your deposit in. it's a first come, first serve deal.
head's up....patrick is very serious about safety and each and every wild woman understanding this challenge...so am i. please make sure to ask him anything...better to ask now than when you are hanging off the mountain from a rope at 13,000 feet!

p.s.s. if you don't want to receive any more of these e-mails....please let me know and i won't bug you anymore.

i will end this e-mail with a quote:

do the thing that scares you the most. ~eleanor roosevelt

wild women rock wyoming

twenty years from now you will be more disapointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. so throw off the bowlines. sail away from safe harbor. catch the trade winds in your sails. explore, dream, discover....unknown

okay ladies...this is my first experience with a blog....hope it is helpful. here's the deal....finished up most of the details last night. there are a few changes.

first of all....we are climbing the grand teton in teton national park....right outside of jackson hole, wyoming.

we are using jackson hole mountain guides. this is a challenging climb/hike and we will have 1 guide to every 3 wild women. the person in charge of our climb is patrick peterson. 307-733-4979...patrick would like to speak with each and every wild woman that is considering this trip. he wants everyone to completely understand what you aregetting yourselves into.

you will need to fly into jackson on monday, july 20th. we will pick you up at the airport....just let me know what your flight arrangements are. we will also get you back to the airport on saturday.

we will begin our training on the mountain on tuesday, july 21st.

we start our official climb/hike on wednesday morning and descend on friday morning. there will be a full moon when we are on the mountain...how cool is that?

friday night, we will have dinner and a slideshow of all the photographs from the climb. we have 3 professional photographers going on this trip....and great light with the full moon. needless to say there will be some kickin' images from the trip.

you can fly home saturday....unless you want to stay and hang out with us in dubois...great riding, fishing and general lalagaging around promised.

the trip is going to cost $1000 plus airfare. this is for 1 full day,pre-climb instruction in the tetons, 3 days...2 nights on the mountain, all the guide services (1 guide/ 3 women ratio), great food and wine, porters to schlep our stuff up the mountain and an amazing experience and memory...oh yeah... and cool "wild women rock wyoming...no whining allowed" t-shirts and ball caps!

everybody needs to fly in on july 20th....doesn't matter what time ....and be ready to rock and roll on the 21st. we will head up the mountain on the 22nd and descend on the 24th.

go to the website, look at the three day grand teton climb...it will give you a pretty good idea of what we will be doing. keep in mind that the trip is being catered to our needs and specifications...like good wine/food... and a porter to take our gear up ( which is huge!!!!) also, go to the haul bag and pull down photos for grand teton. this will either inspire or scare the holy crap out of you!!!

don't forget to call patrick peterson. 307-733-4979. the trip is under the missy sprouse wild women trip. patrick would like to speak with each and every person that is considering going. you can also book your trip with him.

sorry, the cost was more than i thought...but, after speaking at length with patrick i think the training day and an extra day on the mountain are important for safety and for a more pleasurable experience. it is a heckuva deal!!!

fyi...the more you prepare for this trip ...the more you will enjoy it!!! there is nothing like this kind of trip to motivate us to get prepared!!!
